The new American booklists are completed!
The summer heat is intense, our air conditioning is broken, and lesson planning is in full swing. 🙂 It was a honor to consult with a couple families these last two years and help them draw up curriculum and reading plans for their children. From those endeavors, I’ve been prompted to revamp my American booklists as I prep my own syllabi for the upcoming academic year. The lists below are expanded to more accurately account for multiple reading levels and include some fantastic new finds!
Young Reader’s Picture Books (by week)
I wrote this list to correlate with the weekly lesson plans of Catholic Schoolhouse and other classical curriculum programs. The titles are narrowed down to include a manageable number of pictorial treasures for families with young children as they work through an American timeline.
Historical Fiction for Students (by time period)
This list is brand new! As I was brainstorming next school year, I found myself wanting a more exhaustive and current booklist to guide me. Here, I’ve created a resource ordered according to time periods. Some sections have multiple books to choose from; all are divided into three categories: young readers graduating from I-Can-Read books (Short Chapter), popular titles for the independent grammar and middle school students (Upper Elementary), and some more advanced options for the older middle school child (Middle School). Many high schoolers will also find great suggestions for pleasure reading in this last category. Tips are added at the end of each page, to help you choose what will fit best from these categories. There is a mix of classic, series, and new titles for your children (or you!) to enjoy.
Happy Reading! You might want to buy another bookshelf. 🙂
Quite the impressive list, or rather, lists! What a wealth you bring to the fore! Love you!
